William Heard Kilpatrick, a leading philosopher and American educator has often been called the ‘father of progressive education’. Being a keen student of life, he was deeply concerned with the rapid changes going on in civilization as a result of Democracy, technical advancement and industrialization. He brought philosophy to bear upon the problems of men arising out of these rapid changes taking place in life. Concerned with the ever new problems confronting men in the modern industrialized world he developed a philosophy based on change as an inherent factor. As a true pragmatist his philosophy is founded upon the life process of human beings in which are found the conflicting wants, values and satisfactions out of which arise the criticized values which cumulatively constitute his philosophy of life. His faith in Democracy as a way of life led him to believe in associated living as a means of affecting progress and achieving responsible selfhood,
