The present study is the outcome of author's doctoral research work entitled Spatial Analysis of Sixth and Seventh Lok Sabha Elections in India : A Comparative Study in Electoral Geography. India is the largest democracy in the world, where the largest electorate participates in the election process under diverse physical, cultural and socio-economic conditions. The Sixth and Seventh Lok Sabha elections played a crucial role in the electoral history of the country since the Indian National Congress was dramatically thrown-out of power for the first time and again brought back to power in a short period of less than three years. The study analyses the influence of ecological and socio-economic variables on voting pattern and performances of various political parties at these two general elections. A wide range of aspects like six, religion, language, literacy, urban, agricultural, S.C. and S. T. population, traders and industrial workers have been considered to analyses the electoral behaviour of discrete regions. The study, which is rich in content and methodology will add significantly to the meagre literature on electoral geography and provide an insight into the electoral behaviour of the Indian people.
